Stardew Valley, Farming Simulator by ConcernedApe

Stardew Valley is a farming simulator with RPG elements created by a single developer known as ConcernedApe (Eric Barone). You inherit your grandfather's old farm and move from the city to Pelican Town. What follows is farming, crop cultivation, animal husbandry, fishing, mine exploration, and getting to know the valley's residents. Stardew Valley quickly gained worldwide recognition and became one of the highest-rated indie games on Steam with an "Overwhelmingly Positive" rating.

Gameplay and Activities

Every day in Stardew Valley brings new activities. Spring means planting parsnips and cauliflower, summer brings melons and blueberries, fall is for pumpkins and cranberries, and winter focuses on fishing and mining. Beyond farming, you can craft, cook, mine ore in monster-filled dungeons, and build relationships with 12 romanceable characters. Each season features festivals and unique events that keep gameplay fresh across hundreds of hours.

Villager Gifts

The relationship system is a core part of Stardew Valley. Each villager has favorite and disliked gifts. Giving the right gifts increases friendship levels, unlocking new cutscenes, recipes, and the possibility of marriage. For example, Abigail loves amethysts, Sebastian prefers frozen tears, and Leah values goat cheese. Learning villager preferences significantly enhances the gameplay experience.

Fishing

Fishing is one of the main skills in Stardew Valley. Different fish appear in different bodies of water, seasons, and times of day. Over 70 fish species are available, including legendary ones. As your fishing skill improves, the catching minigame becomes easier and new tackle options unlock: spinners, trap bobbers, and cork bobbers. Fish are used in recipes, Community Center bundles, and for selling.

Mods

The Stardew Valley community has created thousands of mods. SMAPI is the primary mod loader. Popular mods include Stardew Valley Expanded with new NPCs and locations, Automate for production automation, and CJB Cheats Menu for testing. Mods install through SMAPI and do not require the Steam Workshop.
