Hades, Roguelike Inspired by Greek Mythology

Hades is a roguelike action game by Supergiant Games that became one of the best indie games of the decade. You play as Zagreus, son of Hades, attempting to escape the underworld to the surface. Each escape attempt is a unique run through random rooms with enemies, rewards, and encounters with Olympian gods who grant powerful blessings.

Weapons and Blessings

Six Infernal Arms — sword, spear, shield, bow, fists, and rail gun — offer distinct combat styles. Olympian gods — Zeus, Poseidon, Aphrodite, Ares, Artemis, Dionysus, and others — grant blessings that enhance attacks with elemental effects. Combining blessings creates unique builds each run. Duo blessings from two gods are especially powerful.

Story and Characters

Unlike most roguelikes, Hades features a deep story that progresses between runs. Conversations with underworld residents reveal Zagreus's family history. Megaera, Nyx, Thanatos, Achilles, Orpheus — dozens of characters with unique stories and relationships. Death advances the plot: each return unlocks new dialogue.

Replayability

The Pact of Punishment adds difficulty modifiers after your first escape. Each modifier makes runs harder and rewards you. The Mirror of Night offers permanent upgrades. Relationships with characters develop through gifts. Completing all storylines requires dozens of escapes.
