Helldivers 2 is a third-person cooperative shooter by Arrowhead Game Studios. You are a Helldiver, an elite soldier of Super Earth, fighting two alien factions: the bug-like Terminids and the robotic Automatons. The game became a sensation after its February 2024 release, attracting hundreds of thousands of concurrent Steam players. It combines intense action with humor and satire of militaristic propaganda.
Gameplay and Stratagems
Core gameplay involves completing missions on procedurally generated planets. A team of four Helldivers drops from orbit, completes objectives, and extracts. Stratagems are the key mechanic: D-pad combinations call in orbital strikes, turrets, supplies, and vehicles. Each stratagem has a cooldown and requires precise placement. Friendly fire is always on, creating chaos and comedy.
Galactic War
A "live" galactic war system means all players contribute to a shared campaign, liberating planets from enemies. The game master at Arrowhead coordinates events, introducing new orders and threats in real time.
Weapons and Equipment
The arsenal includes assault rifles, shotguns, sniper rifles, machine guns, and energy weapons. Heavy ordnance — recoilless rifles, rocket launchers, and flamethrowers — is called via stratagems. Armor affects defense, speed, and passive bonuses.
